What is CE marking (AI context)?

In the EU AI Act, the CE marking is the mark a provider affixes to a high-risk AI system to show it conforms with the Act's requirements for such systems and any other applicable Union harmonisation law. For software-only systems, a digital CE marking is used.

Article 48 sets the rules for affixing the marking, including that it appears alongside the notified body's identification number where a notified body was involved. The marking follows a successful conformity assessment. It is a provider obligation, not a deployer one.
