What is AI literacy?

AI literacy is the skills, knowledge and understanding that let people use and oversee AI systems sensibly and be aware of their opportunities and risks. Under the EU AI Act, providers and deployers must take measures to give their staff and others operating AI on their behalf a sufficient level of it.

Article 4 of the EU AI Act sets the obligation and expects measures to reflect people's technical knowledge, experience, education and the context of use. It does not prescribe a fixed curriculum, so organisations typically record who was trained, on what and when.
