What is Deployer?

Under the EU AI Act, a deployer is a person or organisation that uses an AI system under its own authority in a professional capacity. A company using a purchased recruitment tool is a deployer; the company that built and supplied the tool is the provider.

Deployers of high-risk systems have duties under Article 26, including using the system according to the instructions, assigning competent human oversight, monitoring operation, keeping logs under their control and informing workers where relevant. In some circumstances a deployer can take on provider responsibilities, so check the Act.
